Smile New member....just bought a 150 CDTi SRi

Greetings.... A new member from Wiltshire, used to own a clapped out 97 Vectra and ran it into the ground. Just back from the Middle East and had set my sights on a Black CDTI SRi 150 which I am now the proud owner of an 07 plate car.

I've noticed a lot of bad press on common faults with this model, but then as a lot of people point out, due to the forum, this is where people come to air their problems and get advice and for a car that has sold so many there are bound to be cars with problems.

Does anyone know if it is wise to change the cambelt before the 100,000k mark as specified in the service manual? Mine had a FSH and is currently on 59k miles now, not due it next major until summer 2011 or 80k.

Look forward to browsing through forums and threads and learning more about the car.

hi there mucker and welcome to a fantastic forum,

answer too your question is wether you want to change it or not,if you have the cash then why not and do the water pump as well saves money and time in the long run,
my car old car cdti 150 changed it at 94,000 but my old mans snapped at 36,000 ,so for me i would do it soon than later, i got a zaffy now and it was done at 70,000
    good luck muck

got the same engine mate, I bought it with 80k on it........changed the cam belt as soon as i bought it.......cost me £250 all in....its a small price to pay really.

As said, they can go at any time, it will at least give you some peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice, I am caught in two minds whether to leave it until the next service and do it then. If Vx recommend doing it at 100k and its only got 59k on the clock now, then you would think it would be fine for a few more k miles? Although I do appreciate they can go anytime.

I would consider doing it now as your going to do it while you own it so your not saving anything by not getting it done. the consensus is 60k is about right.

(also, take your full reg number out of your profile, you never know who's looking )

Hello and a warm welcome to you, I have a doppelganger myself and am happy to chat.

As for the problems many are well documented such as the dual mass flywheel, the egr and injector No.3 but on our cars the loom should be blue so that and the inlet manifold are of the modified variety.

As for cambelt tensioners and water pump aim to replace them about 60>75K miles to be safe as it's a better be safe than sorry job.

If I can be of help in other desired mod's, well just ask

About £140 for the timing belt kit and £40 for the water pump

They offer an SKF full kit at £182 plus VAT but I think many here would build up a kit with OEM parts such as a Contitech belt and SKF tensioners and pump etc etc

You mentioned that our cars should have a blue loom and have the modified inlet manifold? My car was registered Jun 07, so would it be reasonable to expect this 150 to have the modifications done which will hopefully alleviate these problems?

I am greatful for advice on cam belt and water pump change mileage, it just strikes me that Vx quote 100k when most people on here recommend 60k ish.
