    Default Insurance warning!

Just been given the cold shoulder from NIG insurance which I received through Adrian Flux...be warned!!!

Involved in a shunt by a clown who reversed into me while I sat thumping the horn, flashing the lights and shouting like a nutter trying to warn him of his actions!!!!

Could not prove anything as there were no other persons involved and no witnesses, apart from the tube involved stating to me that it was his fault and he didn't see me. To cut it all short, his insurance have came back saying that it was my fault and the best they can do is a 50-50 claim!!!! I have been told by letter from NIG that they won't be helping me anymore and taking anymore further action on the matter. Thanks, now I'm out of pocket and have to get the car sorted myself or go through the insurance and lose 2 years no claims!!!

Been with them for a few years but will NOT be renewing my policy next year.

Done a 2 secs google on NIG and found these reviews, hope that if any of you are insured with NIG that you don't have the same hassle I or these innocent people have experienced...

Seems like NIG will take your money but will not try and fight your corner or back you up in your time of need!!!

If you have MLP (motor legal protection) that's technically a different policy from the motor insurance. often underwritten by a different provider. you might be able to make a claim on that to take the driver of the other car to court.

What sometimes happens (and I know this is bad) if both yourself and the other driver are insured by the same company (or group of companies) they make it a 50/50 fault so that they can get excesses out of both drivers and push both drivers premiums up next year.

an admission of fault by the other party should make you successful in your plea. In order to progress this further, if you dont want to go down the legal insurance route, is to raise an official complaint with the comapny stating that "this is not treating the customer fairly" these are buzz words in the insurance industry at the moment as the FSA is pushing TCF, or, treating the customer fairly, on subscribing insurers.

Threaten to involve the financial obudsmen (FSA) if you do not receive fair treatment.

I always record the conversation i have with the other party on my phone just in case they slip up and admit it.. Has worked before and shocked my insurance compnay when i told them i had the other party admitting liablility on a recording of the post crash exchange of details where he clearly stated who he was etc..

I know this info does not help you now, but its always something for people to try and remember to do if they are involved in a shunt...get your phone out, take pics and then leave it voice recording while you chat.

Thanks for the advice guys but after having been on the phone for a good 40 mins trying to ask why they aren't taking this any further to be told, "they have not enough evidence!!"

They told me that they believed my story and what had happened "at this point I asked the guy to repeat himself and hoped that this call was being recorded" but they couldn't take matters any further due to there being not enough solid evidence!!

This is really just a warning to other people who are insured with the same company as the links tell the same story that I'm trying to tell...they're cowboys!!

I had a woman reverse off a driveway into the side of my car which was in the public highway - and insurances agreed on 50/50!!
Seems all to common now - how my car can travel sideways into her rear is a mystery,.. oh and I'm pretty sure that it's a requirement to ensure it's safe to enter the highway?!

What's happening to the world?!??!? Feel for ya buddy

It's been going on for some time. I had a friend who was in charge of the motor section for a big company. Something came up about "contributory negligence", he explained it was designed to make everyone at fault, ie if you park a car on a dark road, with street lighting, and a lorry comes past and hits it, it's you that was negligent for parking it on the street without leaving the lights on. There's almost always a get out clause for the company somewhere.
