    Question Question

SRi suspension.20mm lower than standard hatch or estate.
Is it the springs that change the ride height?
I thought it was the springs that lowered it and then the shocks are upgraded to stiffer ones to compensate for the lower ride height and less suspension travel.

I have SRi estate so just a query as I `ve just had new rear shocks put on the rear.

Spot on there. Springs lower height. Dampers are stiffer to match the lowered springs.

there's probably lots of people will change only the springs to achieve the "lower Look" to that end can one assume there will generally be a deterioration of ride, and, or handling.

heard of people just doing springs and having problems with double bounce cos the shocks are too soft.
mines standard fit stuff (SRi) so not changed them to after market stuff etc just a query - like double checking.

    thanks for the replies

    technical note

the springs are the shock absorbers and the ' shocks ' are actually dampers

Here`s my suspension the `spring` is totally seperate to the `shock` which you can see the base of at bottom of pic.I`ve had new new rear `shocks` today.Hence my question.Want to triple check it`s done right. Now people are saying the above.

So are springs now called shocks and shocks called dampers?
Cos I`m confused if thats the case. Why?

i was just being pedantic m8,

your spring is the shock absorber in the system, and the damper stops it from moving to many times giving it a bouncy ride,

but as much as a vacume is a hoover, a spring is a spring and a shock is what you mean

Although what 'Brake Buster' is saying is technically correct,

The general abreviation is that the terms 'dampers' and 'shocks or shock absorbers' are the same item and springs are the other item.
