Doesnt surprise me at all - i went in for a hernia operation a few years ago and got extremely worried when the surgeon came in before i went down and drew an arrow in permanant marker at the top of my right leg, when i asked him what it was for he replied "u dont want us cutting the wrong side open do u"

That is fairly standard practice, nothing to worry about. STill as someone who works with medical doctors everyday I can tell you we all trust them more than they often deserve. I would say that many a patient has been saved by the watchful experience of nurses except today would not be the best day considering the current story about the nurse turning a quadraplegics ventilator off!
