    Talking Fresh MOT

Well the GSi passed its MOT on Thursday! Cost? MOT fee plus 30 minutes labour for the pre-test inspection. It needed nothing for the test! Not bad for a seven-year-old motor!

    Awesome car.

That is good going for an 03 ... What does a Pre-test inspection do, whats it for? Does it check for everything an MOT does? whats the advantage for having an MOT preinspection done?

When I get mines done it is effectely a 'practice run' for the MOT. If the garage spot a potential failure they will usually phone you to let you know of the problem and cost to resolve before the MOT test. It means you can avoid paying for 2 MOT's if it is something stupid which the car fails on.

??? Whenever I've had MOT's done they've always included a free retest if it fails on something, so long as the cars taken back for the retest within a week or two...

Ummm, but a free re-test is free. Paying for a Pre MOT test/check before having the actual MOT test carried out I still dont understand why you would do that.. I just thought most all MOT stations offered free Re-Tests should the car fail.. (everyone one Ive ever used in over 20 years of driving have offered free re-test)

Its upto the garage whether they do the retest free or charge a partial fee for the retest -

If the failed vehicle is taken away but then brought back to the same test station and retested before the end of the next working day on one or more of the following items only then no fee is charged for a retest: Partial Re-Examination Items - (No Additional Fee)

    Bonnet Horn Sharp Edges

    Bootlid Lamps Steering Wheel

Brake Pedal Antislip Loading Door Tailboard

    Direction Indicators Mirrors Tailgate

    Doors Rear Reflectors VIN

Dropsides Registration Plates Windscreen and Glass

Fuel Filler Cap Seat Belts Wipers and Washers

Hazard Warning Seats Wheels and Tyres

If Your Vehicle Fails Due to Other Items

If the vehicle is left at the MOT testing station for repair and is retested before the end of 10 working days following the day of failure, then only a partial retest is needed for which no fee is charged.

If the vehicle is removed from the testing station for repair and returned for retest within 10 working days following the day of failure, then only a partial retest is needed and a partial retest fee is charged. In any other case a full retest is required and the full MOT test fee will be charged. Only one free partial retest is permissable per full examination.
