Default My New Vec SRi - quite disapointed :(

    Hi Guys / Girls

I have a silver 05 SRi CDTi 150 pre-facelift. I love the car to bit but the only few things I wasn't 100% on are:

    - colour, I like the black or dark grey
    - the facelift model has really grown on me
    - I like the sat nav

So, I went and bought a black 55 SRI CDTi 150 sat nav - facelift last week.

The handling is significantly surer than the pre-face which is great.

However the engine is huuuuugely disapointing compared to my pre-face.

My pre-face was going like a rocket.... CR1 @ 21/22 turns and K&N. Turbo spooled up very quickly and nice loud sound, and very responsive from throttle press at 2000 revs all the way up.

So , I swapped the CR1 over and the K&N from old to new on sat and the car and I'm pretty unhappy. I was expecting it to be the same as my old but the turbo lag is huge. Once above 2500 revs and the turbo spools up it isn't too bad but there is about 2-3 seconds of lag compared to my old one and it is hugely frustrating.

I tried the CR1 on 18 turns and the same as before (21/22) and makes no difference.

How can two of the same engine designs/sizes be so vastly different? I can't even hardly hear the turbo spooling up on this new one. The old one sounds awesome.

I am at the point of wondering if there may actually be something wrong? Does the engine management take time to adjust to filter/CR1?

I am also considering selling it on and keeping the old one (which I still have)?

Any one offer any advice or shed any light on this please?

    Sad Rikki

    You put it on right?

How many miles on old and new? Big difference on these cars....

The new engine has tighter emmisions control too...

Yeah pretty sure I put it on right... there's not too many ways it can go wrong is there?

It goes quite well when it gets going above 3000 revs and the turbo has spooled up and I can feel the difference from the CR1 but getting to that point is taking a lot longer than my old one... it feels dead for about 2 or 3 seconds.

old car - bought 6 months ago, 6000 on clock, now 13,000
new one - bought last week with 11,300 on the clock

(i didn't realise there were engine differences)

sorry to hear that Rikki, can't be much fun jumping in a new car all excited and then being hugely disappointed!

if the car was brand new i would've thought the engine would loosen up over time, but on a 55 plate i take its got a good few miles under its belt.

    Should be enough miles.

Older engine is most likely the Y19DT(H?) and the new one is the Z19DT(H?)

Just make sure the CR1 is installed correctly, as if it isn't it doesn't work properly.

The ECU does need to settle the fuel pressure after a box is fitted matey. Normally about 50 miles. It'll take approx 200 miles to settle the fuel rail pressure once the box is removed as well. My engine on my pre facelift didn't loosen up until well after 10,000 miles matey, and to be honest it really started to fly once it passed 20,000.

    Have you de-restricted the airbox?

In my opinion get yourself a remap (Jayson at Chipped UK is recommended), or go for a Turbo Pressure Module from Diesel Tuner / Diagnostix UK.

Also, my initial setup (ECU, rail etc) didn't like Powerklick boxes and absolutely flew with a CR1 fitted. I've since had all the fueling parts and ECU replaced, so I may try a Powerklick now and see what happens. It still likes the CR1 as it's back on at 21 turns. My point is that every engine is different (it seems) and different boxes / settings have different effects on performance and economy.

Thats odd, as mine spools up nicely at 2000rpm, dead below 1500rpm. if its not getting going until 3000rpm I would have it checked bud.
