    Default Venting to Atmos!

Well I've never been so embarrassed!, After making my way back from skegness on a day trip to pick up a bargain! new boiler, The cdti vec done me proud (56mpg), Running a diverted system that 'vents to atmos' & that's now done 1000 miles i was nearing journeys end & ran into some heavy traffic in Nottingham!, Sat there just looking round & WELL the COLD air & vent didn't mix, the vec was like a Little puffing Steam Train!, It wasn't a Massive amount but clearly visible as it vents just by the front wheel!, looked like a mix between the above or a factory boiler house!, Im now in two minds, 'yes' it does seem to be doing the job but can i stand looking like a right t**t, Im now thinking 'how' long am i going to keep the car?, & if it is long term (04rg-67k) as I've had it from new, I may be tempted to reconnect & just replace the manifold again in 3/4 yrs! if required.

    i can just imagine...

ah well it not the most embarrasing thing to happen to a car i'd guess

i'm off to see diesel bob in the next week or so for his advice on how to improve our closed system. They specialise in diesel servicing and have a great reputation round here...

if i can work something out with them, then i'll post it on here..

    in the meantime

    Can we rename you Ivor......

Derek,I don't know whether you have an update, but the last price I had for the Provent 200 was £136 +vat+ £10 delivery, which I thought was a bit steep considering, and the place in Aylesbury seems to be the only one that does them. FELIXX.

I tried Dingbro and they wanted £183.45 plus VAT and as yet unable to get a quote on the Racor CCV400

I know it can look very odd indeed and come the winter weather now I too will see how my shame levels take to the modification as the positive pressure is quite strong enough to force a thin cloud of smoke out around the engine bay area. Hmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thing is I don't really want some ugly extra tank that still has to have a discharge to atmos, Neither do I want to look like some welsh mini railway engine!!, Re-connection maybe the only answer short term, long term would eventually be re-doing the manifold & more than likely an inter-cooler. I would have looked into buying a newer car but my wage packet has been cut by £6k per yr, so im in the market for a complete bargain, but ain't we all!.

I can imagine the scene,as I was messing around with mine the other night and held my hand over it,and yes,it does have a very positive pressure coming out of it.I thought about it and decided to move the filter,(my catch tank has a filter on the top),and ran a piece of garden hose down the engine bay and along the exhaust pipe,(but away from it),and anchored it about halfway along to one of the hanger brackets.
It seems to be doing ok as I "clock" it on a regular basis, and any "puffing" will look like exhaust gas.(I hope).FELIXX.

    no probs chaps

i'll be there or thereabouts at the start of next week ( maybe sooner ) , once i've been i'll let you know what gives

i'm sure there will be a demand for a suitable closed system which improves what we have at the moment.
