    Default Now Im confused?...

After months of the rear end knocking over uneven ground and speed bumps, I'd diagnosed it (with help from forum members) as the rear upper control arms, ordered the parts and set this weekend aside to do the work.

mrs bigdave called into the garage run by her dads mate to book the car in for its MOT. While there, he put the car on the ramp to have a quick poke round to make sure there's no other work that needs doing for the MOT and she told him about the repair work I was intending doing this weekend. He had a look and said he cant see anything wrong and in all the years hes worked with Vauxhalls hes never know the rear upper control arms go. Annoyingly emma didnt think to ask what it was thats knocking...

So what do I do now? Do I go on his advice and do nothing and hope he spots the fault during the MOT. Or do I do the repair anyway as Ive already bought the parts?...

Peace of mind now you have bought the parts. I don,t know how difficult they are to change. But you never know it might cure the knocking. If it was me and I had bought the parts I would be changing them, as I say peace of mind if nothing else.

That just isn't the case - failure of the bushes in the upper rear control arms is very common in the Vec-C. When I replaced mine, one bush in each control arm was like jelly. Either he's referring to some other component, or your wife has mis-relayed his message, or some other confusion has taken place. If you have the spares, use them.

if you feel your rear end ( car that is ) flick out slightly when taking a corner at speed, then theres a good chance the arms need replacing, you can always try the wheel grab test.......thats usually a good sign of wear / tear in this area

Bigdave have you done the test to see if it is the upper control arms that are at fault?

I thought the bushes were inside the arm and not visible unless the arm is removed? And i'm sure they have a finite lifespan, being rubber.

I take my signum to bloke who used to be a vauxhall workshop manager.
He put it up on the ramp and diagnosed it.
Mine is booked in to have them changed, they are known for going.
