Default starting a detailing buisness, tips req

    hi all

I pride myself on being able to valet/detail a car rather good, and i do basic valeting at a few local buisnesses, but nothing special just mini valets as no1 really ever wants to spend more than £15 per car

has anyone set up there own detailers before? and how did you attract the higher spending customer, or just the customers who want a proper job doing!

    cheers for any advice lads

You really need to cater to what people want
However, don't have a tarriff that goes on, and on, and on

The best way is to simply offer a basic service and then various add-ons
If you are cleaning the outside, the a vacuum and clean of the inside often goes well

You could then apply for a licence from AutoGlym (or similar)
Again, you could apply these products during the valet, a leaflet is then leaflet outling what product was used, and then a price list
Obvioulsy this means the person may do the cleaning themselves in future, but the future product sales would then free you up to increase this customer base

Can you not develop anything with the businesses you valet for? Is there anyone else they can recommend your services to? If you haven't, maybe you should ask them.

i have been pondering this, as i did so a 59 plate audi A8L the other day, did make me giggle that he only wanted to spend £15 on a mini valet (reduced price for employees at company i valet for in car park) on a car that is worth in excess of £60K

If you want to do some proper corrective detailing work, then you need to get exposure out there to the masses, you may need to do a car or two for maybe nothing but get the full write up with before and afters on as many sites / leaflets etc.. as you can and you will be surprised at the interest it will generate.

This time of year, and this current climate it may not generate as much as you may want, but its better than nothing.

I have my own website for it, and am known about the area now, all I did was the above - I get a handful of enquires every week too.
