Default Has the government gone potty?

Is it just me or has our government gone insane

Just lately all i ever seem to read about is cuts, cuts, cuts to improve the economy, yet along with all these cuts seem to be millions of job losses which surely means more people claiming benefits.

The thing that set me off was this.

I'm beginning to wonder whether anyone will be able to afford to run a car in 3yrs time

Hard call, just as I predicted when Labour won back in 97, the Labour Government ruined the country, and the population drivben by leftist media cheerfully voted for them not just once but 3 elections in a row. Unfortunately for Labour they lost control of being able to hide the truth. My job and my wife's job is at risk, but the truth is the country can not afford to keep spending the way they have. Do I fully agree with their approach. No I think we should stop sending money out of the country. Ie no money to EU (funding our competitors, and sometimes even enemies such as Irish Republic who cheerfully took UK money while helping the IRA) and all foreign aid. The UK can not afford to give to charity. Once that is done if cuts still need to be made then consider cutting services etc.

Defence, Education and Health should not be cut. Much money from wellfare could go, we spend far to much supporting wasters. Other areas also could be cut such as support for arts and culture - again luxuries to be supported in times of plenty and not necessities needed to be supported at all times.

In the past month we have been told our local a&e is to be closed and the school my children attend has all plans for repairing it scrapped even though its falling apart.

Just found another story where council housing is being slashed by 50% causing another 360,000 jobs a year to be lost

I cant see this ending well

AS normal we're now paying to put the country back ontrack due to a previous labour Government spending more and more just to ensure they look good and get peoples votes, glad to see the back of 'em...

We should just vote the lot out. They are all the same - no better just far worse. Then when labour get in power again they'll be far worse. Just a constant bad cycle imo.

Our history seems to be that Labour spend and leave the country bankrupt then the Torries come in and rebuild, Easy to stop the cycle, just don't vote Labour, then the county will continue to prosper

    Basically, no
Just about everyone has known "cuts" were going to take place, and now that details are emerging people have realised, "er, that affects me, that's not fair"

As is typical the politicians are going to take the rap for it, but not always the right ones
For example, the budget for Defence has been cut
However the politicians have listed the impact of the cuts
There is no way these politicians would have made this decision, it would have been the Ministry of Defence, then reporting back
It is similar for all the other departments
Therefore the method used is incorrect
The government should just state the budget is cut
Each department then reports what impact that has, as and when it happens
So instead of all these cuts as once, they would have dripped through, as they will over the next two years

Ironically, we have Scottish elections early in 2011, and is expected the current coalition will be replaced by a majority Labour government
