    Unhappy Vectra 2.0 DTI STRUGGLED

This morning i went out to start my car knowing in the mornings it does struggle abit and white smoke puffs out of the exhaust. This morning was worse. I had to turn the key and hold it for about 30-40 seconds for the car to just start all that was happening was it was trying to start and puffing loads of white smoke out the exhaust. Once started the car is fine. If the engien is warm it start no problem at all. Which is leading me to think that it is the glow plugs that need changing. When i went down to messys the other day to get my car detailed he looked under the bonnet and said that my head gasket might have gone.

First of all what do you guys think it is.
Another thing is that when i put my foot to floor abit of white smoke comes out the exhuast which i thought was just condensation, as there was alot more today with it being freezing.

I need to get this sorted asap as this is not going to be the coldest morning of the winter by far.

    Thanks

Did the diesel heater light come on this morning?

Do u get a spanner light for a couple of minutes on cold starts?

As for the head gasket - is the car using water?

Take the oil cap off and see if their is a creamy gunge on it, whip the dipstick out and look for the same, check the expansion bottle for oil

If you see any gunge or/and your using water the head gasket is probably on its way out

No there is no gunge on the end becuase that is all i knew about checking wether the head gasket is on its way out. And yes the car with the spanner light comes on for about 10 seconds but as soon as i really drive the car it goes off.
The glow plugs light has only come on three times and they have all be in the last week, for about 2 months before that the glow plugs never came on.
When i bought the car it had been stood for about 4 months if this makes any difference.
And in the 3 months i have had the car i have never had to fill any water up.
Hopefuly its just the glow plugs, but would they cause the white smoke?

    Thanks

No water use or over heating rules out head gasket, get some new glow plugs and take it from thier.

as roswell said - if your not overheating or using water the head gasket is fine

I have only seen my glowplug lights twice this year and that was this week - and yes it does look like you have either a duff glowplug or relay so i'd change the glowplugs and go from there

You can get a set of glow plugs for £30 quid then all you need is a 10mm long socket and rachet
