    Exclamation CIM problem?

Tonight when I started the car i noticed that the rev counter was not working and that all warning lights in the bottom left of the instrument panel were illuminated along with a steering wheel warning symbol in the display, the petrol gauge, temp gauge and speedo were also not working. The car drove ok and even the cruise control was working fine. On getting to my work I turned off the ignition and removed the key and restarted the engine but still the same. I turned the engine off, removed the key and locked the car, including dead locking it. On restarting the car the display returned to normal.
Unfortunately as I was on my way to work I was unable to check the codes to see if it threw up a fault code. Does it sound like an issue with the CIM?

Didn't someone once say that there could be a dodgey earth on the steering collumn that could cause this sort of fault.

But on the earlier Vectra's ( seem to recall 2003 models being mentioned), the ABS connector may be dirty and cause this type of problems.

Finally, your CIM may be on the way out, but I would check all connections etc first.

Try a cold start of the system (like a reboot on a computer).
Unplug the battery for a few hours...or even over night, then reconnect the battery.
This often clears many "glitch" type faults.

As it is the most expensive, I would leave the CIM to the last item to consider replacing.

Yes mate, and as Robsey said, leave the CIM as a last resort

Thankfully, the ABS plug is slap-bang on top of the modulater / pump assembly, so it is really easy to get at.
It is to the rear, left of the battery box.

Thanks for the reply robsey. I'll disconnect the battery tomorrow after doing a pedal test to check the fault codes, see if that throws any light. Do remember hearing it is around £300 for a new CIM so I'm really hoping its not that too.

About 90% of faults are either computer glitches, or dirty / poor connections, so CIM's aren't quite as flimsy as people would suggest.

Hope this eases your concerns, as a failed CIM is expensive to replace as this also involves a very complex Tech 2 session.

Yea I kinda hoped it was just a glitch. I forgot to mention the ABS light was also illuminated in the dash board too.
