Default How do I remove a House Radiator with a Room Stat

    FOlks,

Urgently need to know how I can remove a radiator from a wall, with one side controlled by a room stat.

How do I know when the valve is closed so that no more water comes through?

    Thanks.

all you need to do is turn the trv off to number 0 or a frost type thing and with the lockshield side , take the cap off and get a spanner or simmilar and turn it clockwise until it will turn no more , then you can either put a bowl or something under the nut nearest to the rad to drain it mate

when i say trv i mean what you are calling a room stat mate

Do as above and with the central heating running, open the bleed valve. If no air or water flows out, then the rad is isolated and you can just take a wrench to it.

Just be careful not to do as I did the other day and put too much strain on the joint between the pipe-work and the valve. The valve on our bathroom rad was seized tight and developed a leak in the compression fit when I tried to undo it. Ended up having to drain half the system to fit a new valve!

    Good luck!

if its the adjustable stat on the radiator it should have come with a grey cap , you undo the screw holding the stat on and remove it then screw the grey cap down where the stat was and this shuts off the valve
