    Eek Vauxhall 'stealers' - definitely

Went to Evans Halshaw in Plymouth this morning to get a quote on the following parts and labour:
New clutch, DMF, slave cylinder, Cambelt Kit and Water Pump all in £1770!
She said it would be 8 hours labour, need the car for two days, would give me a courtesy car (thanks) and............................................... .......

the price quoted was with forces discount
So, I popped into Protyre and they quoted me £1300 all in and done within a day. The lady at VX service reception did say go back if you get a better quote, but how can they knock off £400?

A lot of the DMF quotes alone have been circa £1200>1300 so on the face of it, it's not that outrageous for a main dealer but is still a mountain of cash!

I would still go back with the new quote and see if they will match it

You'd be surprised at the profit on parts they make. Honda sells an egr valve for circa £600 but actually costs around £250!

get the part numbers from them and buy them elsewhere or use your new tradeclub card for discount at the dealers. Pay somebody else to fit it all, and it does not take that long to do the job, TIS quote or not. Unless your car needs work doing this asap and is not really driveable I would not use the dealer.

If you fancy a road trip and/or day out, speak to Maverick and see if he'll get a quote from Marshalls in Leicester for you mate. They did my cambelt, service and MoT on my 3.0 diesel for a cracking price and the service is excellent. Bit of a trek but could save a lot of cash...

I guess it would be more than worth it if it was cheap enough. I can't get the work done until I get back which isn't until December, but then it might be rubbish weather and I won't risk it if that's the case. All the same, thanks for the advice. Will wait until December

Just got a quote from JMA Vauxhall (Repair and sales) down in Plymouth. He said it would be LUK Dual Mass Flywheel and Clutch (said they are modified, but in what way I can't remember. He me lol), OE waterpump and dayco cambelt kit, in the garage for 2-3 days and all in £1057. Quotes are getting better Does anyone know if LUK have done something to make their DMF and clutches better. I think he said it was a two or three part clutch (what does that mean?) and what about the dayco cambelt kit - anything to watch out for with this kit?
    Cheers
    George
