Default Which is quicker cavalier or vectra?

Was on the Astra forum (shame on me) and they were asking which was faster the old mk2 sri gte or the newer specs.

So a question to you guys the cavalier SRI 1.8 & 2.0 8 valve NOT 16 valve, Do you think this was a quicker car than the vectra 1.8? or a 150 cdti?

Forget top end speed for now im talking quicker off the mark, the cavalier was a lighter car and no catalitic converters.

Then the cavalier sri 130 this was 8 valve yes? 2.0ltr?.

If by a miracle there was a brand new car in the cavalier range not been used still in wrapping which one would you have?

If I could have any Cavalier from factory it would be the GSi 4x4 with every option ticked. I do like the Turbo's but would prefer a GSi (pre 1990 ones had the 20XE not the C20XE)

As for speed comparison, you would have to do like for like. The Vectra 1.8 would have to be pitted against the 1.8 16v Cav which had the same engine as the Mk4 Astra?

If you did Cav SRi (2.0 8v mk3) against a Vectra 1.8 SRi, I would say the cav would win. Just. Close ratio, not restricted by emmission laws and lighter.

As the cars get newer and get more toys they get heavier.

I used to have GTE 16v (mk2) which was much better than the GSi 16v (mk3) I hadf after. Better away from the lights, better top end, better handling (same engine... both C20xe, but both de-cat'd)

The same also goes for the calibra I had (same as a cav but with different panels!) It was the 2.5v6, but it would easily keep up with my Signum 3.2 (signum is a vectra really)

    No calibra's and no mk3's the good old mk2 SRI 1.8 8 valve or the 2.0 8 valve 130.

Umm, the Cavalier 1.8 was 90bhp, the Vectra 1.8 is 120bhp, so I would assume the Vectra would woop an old cavalier..

I guess that goes for most newer model cars, better engineering & electronic gubbins, more power & economy than what came before from a same size block..

Nibblitz a better comparison would be a 1.8 cavalier sri that had 115bhp, but then the cavalier sri would leave the vec for dead as the vec has about an extra 250kg to haul. 130 SRi I had was one rapid motor and is defiantly the car I wish I had been able to put into storage.

It was a lighter animal the cavalier in the body and engine although it rusted and not treated like the cars of today, But still a few kicking about.

My mate had the 2x 1.8 sri and had it to 128mph it was standard just well serviced.

No abs fitted back then no cats, no stupid emission control, ****** heaven really.

Oooops the swear filter blood is not swearing with y on the end.

Well after seeing Matt&Jemz GSI and watching it eat the road in my rear veiw mirror i would say the Cavalier is a very fast n/a car.
