Default strange noise when i rev up

    right here we go..............

my car has been faultless for the five years i have had it apart from needing a new altenator 18 months ago,
tonight when i pulled up on the driveway i noticed an unusual noise when i rev the engine above say 3500rpm, it sounds like a mega loud hoover as the revs drop down, car has done 50k and i am worried that it hasnt had a timing belt done as yet, and that maybe the tensioner is goosed,

any one shed any light on this for me or had a similar hoover noise
    cheers jon

Hiya, what engine is it, i had this on my 2.0 dti and it turned out to be the turbo intercooler hose that goes across the top of the engine had a big split, cost me £10 to fix off ebay! hth, Michael

i would say check it, i had it for ages and eventually got the power loss and limp home mode when it finally give way. i'm not sure if they run over the top of the engine on the cdti though, but it was the hose that came from the turbo to the intercooler. hth! Michael

If it has no major power loss then I would say the flexy pipe on the exhaust has gone as mine made a noise as if air was being blown. Get an MOT station to look at it and tell you if that is the problem, it is take it to a custom exhaust place and they will fit a new flexy for maybe around £80. Vauxhall would want to replace the whole down pipe which is rediculous (cost £200).
