    Default V6 3.0DCti Opinions

Any gotchas with this engine. Thinking of either this or the 1.9 CDti 150 but have heard problems with the inlet manifold, egr and flywheel?

    Anything similar with the V6?

I have had 4 1.9 CDTi's covering 30,000 miles a year and the engines have been perfect. My first CDTi 150 is still in the family, is 6 1/2 years old with 104000 miles on it and it is still running it's original DMF, EGR valve and inlet manifold.

You will find there are far more 1.9's that have never had a problem than those that have.

I have also had a 3.0 V6 CDTi Signum, and OK it sounds alot better than the 1.9 and it does go very well, it is a little lazier than the 1.9 but very very smooth.

My 3.0 had a failed fuel pump that cost £2500 to replace, but this was covered by 888 as it just so happened to fail after they tried mapping it. So I would not let this worry you.

If your not too worried about the lower average mpg, which in the real world on the 3.0 is going to be mid 30's going up in to the very low 40's if doing longer driving, then the 3.0 is a good option.

The 1.9 is far quicker if re-mapped than the 3.0. All my 1.9's were re-mapped.

There are plenty of 1.9's about so you can pick and choose.

The 3.0 is a glorious beast but at the economy range it offers, better thought would possibly be a 2.0 Turbo petrol. I went the 1.9 route and it is a typical 4 pot diesel bit rough (but remarkably quiet in a cruise and on the move) and even though I am no angel I still get over 50mpg
The issues are there in the 3.0 as well especially the DMF they both have issues and both have benefit's. A tough call I appreciate.

If you are after economy, including reduces insurance and wear / tear costs, then the 1.9 is for you

If you are refined driving, with ease of acceleration for overtaking on country roads, then the 3.0 V6 CDTI is for you
However, this will increase some costs slightly

Apart from a blocked SCV (which also took the clutch a few weeks later) this engine has been flawless (compared to other VX engines I have had)
You then have the usual Vectra C flaws, so you will get those no matter what engine it has

    Test drive both.

1 is 'peaky' with lag/flat spots the other is lag free and smooth.

    You will buy the 3.0

That's what I did, managed to find a dealership with three fairly identical cars, except for the engines, which allowed me to compare SRi trim level 1.8, 1.9 CDTI and V6 CDTI

I then phoned my insurer at the time to see what they quote for all three types the difference was about £300 (before discount) between them, making an overall spread of about £30

The dealership then phoned Retailer Warranties to see what the difference in cost for the warranty was, only to find the difference was by car and not engine, making the warranty the same cost for all three

Thanks guys, I'm gonna test drive the V6 tomorrow. What is the 'real' difference in mpg? Online shows about 10mpg less but is that in the real world?

In real life from what I read in my research it is likely to pan out about 15>20mpg difference with a 3.0 to a 1.9
