Whats the mileage on this gearbox.

My daughter had a Renault clio that was difficult to get in 1st and 2nd, and a gearbox specialist told me to change the gear oil and put in fully synthetic, as it was a common problem on the clio.

I changed to fully synthetic and it improved. Takes a while for it to work around.

the cars done 115000 miles, ive changed the oil to what vauxhall now specify but the problem is still there, the gears are crunching when changing from 5th to 4th. Been told by a couple or garages it could be the syncro or the selector fork.

Want to try to find a reliable garage to properly diagnose it as ive been quoted £900+for a recon box and at that price i want to try to keep all my options open and see if the box could be repaired.

Will it have syncro on 4th? My understanding was that it was only on 1st and 2nd or am I thinking older classics.

Yea syncro on all gears. Have u tried blipping the throttle while the clutch is down to help match the shaft speeds while shifting from 5th to 4th.

Do you have same problem going from 3rd to 4th ?

Hand brake on, let the clutch up, should stall the engine.
