driving home in my vectra cdti 150 and the battery light came on when i got home i stopped the car and restarted it and the light had gone out when i looked in the book it said alternator was not working,can anybody let me know what i should do is it worth putting a new one on or could it of been just a glitch cheers.

Check the voltage across the battery when running, should be about 14V. If less than this i.e 11 - 12V then probably alternator.
You can get a cheap 1 from ebay and there's a 'how too' to replace.

Alternator likely to be fubar'd I'm afraid.

Exactly the same situation on my Signum.

Do a search - plenty of info.

It's awkward to change but not impossible. MAke sure you've a few handy swearwords as you'll probably need them.

depends how much juice it's putting into the battery.

Get it tested m8. Dont forget to rev it up when testing to get a proper reading

P.S the battery light coming on can also be a symptom of an overcharging alternator

thanks all i will test it tomorrow i was hoping it was just a computer glitch with the light going out.

Daughter had the same problem, got one off Ebay and still working fine and a lot cheaper than dealer prices

thanks for all your help got one today £110 fitted it in about half hour with alot of swearing all is good.
