    Default HIDs

    Hi,
It was summer when I bought the Vectra, so for the first while it got hardly any use with head lights, however with the days closing in, it is now dark for my journey to work and getting dark on my way home. I can't help but notice that the dipped head lights are crap on the Vectra in comparison with the Mondeo. It was the same with the Mk1 Octavia cars I owned. With those cars I fitted brighter bulbs which helped a little. I could do the same on the Vectra, but given that you have to dismantle the front end of the car to change the bulbs, and given the price advertised I was thinking of getting a HID kit. My question is this. Do these actually light your way better, or have the people who have done this upgrade done it purely for cosmetic reasons? I ask because I hate other cars with these as they are hard on oncoming motorists eyes, so I really only want to do this if it will improve things for me.

Since fitting HIDs, I find I don't get so tired when I drive at night because I'm not straining my eyes as much as when I had 55w halogens fitted.

They're far from cosmetic. They make a huge difference.

The oem headlights on the vectra are the worst ive ever seen, i didnt really notice how bad they were until i had to travel back from skeggy a few months ago on back roads - it actually got to the stage where i had my front fogs on aswell just to light the road up but hids are brilliant - best move i ever made, can see alot better and hardly have to use high beam (the only difference with high beam is u can see a yellow tinge and a few more feet)

I think the vectra's should all come oem with hids cos the normal lights are lethal

Yes I have been using the front fogs as well as the standard lights are so bad when travelling over the Antrim hills at 6am in the dark.

Take a look at my thread... post #15 shows you the difference quite nicely I think.
Should answer the question pretty definitively for you

I had the same thoughts, yes the lights are very very dim and after all the posts on here about hids thought why not.

Well the difference is amazing as you can see it the post above. I dont even need my high beam on anymore to see where im going.

Fitted mine on Wednesday and am so chuffed with them.

I went for hids direct 50w 4300k. Dont forget your code for 10% off.

Thanks, for the replies. Handy's link does indeed convince me. Only one further question, have any of you had MOT problems with HIDs fitted? MOT starts at 4 year here in NI, but even so I still will have the car for its 1st and 2nd MOTs before I am changing assuming no disasters.

    Another well discussed point....

The MoT checks operation, aim, beam pattern, appropriate colour and reasonable intensity...

... so as long as they switch on and off correctly, point the right way and aren't a silly colour.... you're fine.
