Default Can i have a list?

Can i have a list for everything i should be checking when going to look at a Vectra please? Is there anything special i need to check?

How do i check if the CV Joints are gone? Will it be OK to take a jack with me to jack the car up and have a look underneath if i am thinking of putting down the deposit on it?

    Cheers

    Tony

CVs you can check on a test drive, find a open space / park park turn full lock left and drive slow then full lock right drive slow if you hear knocking / clicking they need replacing.

check all fluids, check the dash for any engine management lights, try the fans on all speeds (1234) if only 4 works it needs a new resister if none work you need a new fan.

general body work just look over, check for broken springs front and rear.

check tha thier is no grinding nosie when lifting the clutch (possible dmf failure)

im sure somoen will add another 100 items soon

erm from me i would deffo check :

water ingress in spare tyre well ,poor some water over the top of boot if hatchback and in each rear side gutter

and rev engine out of gear see if you get a rattle from the clutch

and if when you put it in first gear you dont get a slight pull forward

take a look at the engine and see if swirl bar is in place

these was just somethings i had to contend with

these are easy and cheap to fix except the cluch as it can be a sign of DMF on its way out ,although mine was rattling for years

i cant see it being a problem having a look underneath

Check the springs, front and rear, they like to break apparently...

If you can, take a code reader with you too (though ask seller if he minds you plugging it in)

The ball socket of the wiper linkage on the driver's side should be white (if you peer through the scuttle panel) if not it is the old linkage. Fail in that insist they have it change or get them to guarantee it has been changed if the car is out of warranty.

Different things to check for different engines.
