    Default Code reader not connecting?

    Evening all.

I have an ELM 327 code reader off Ebay - bought about a year ago for my Corsa. It works fine on that but when I plug it in to the Vectra, there's no sign of life at all. No power light or anything. Do I need a different plug or something? The unit does work on other cars.

    Cheers.

It is yes, same as the Corsa. It's an 03 plate Vectra SRi with the 2.2 diesel.

most of the code readers struggle with diesels pre 2004, i bet if you plug it into a 2005 oilburner it will be fine, i had the same issue with my mates snap on kit on my old 53 plate dti.

I think 2004 saw the mandatory start of OBD ports on cars and things got standardised.

That would explain it, I have a memory if it not working on a friends 1.7DTi Astra too.

Fair enough. That is a bit of a shock though, thought OBD2 was introduced in 1997? Took them a while to sort it!

As above, that appears to have taken them quite some time

Does anyone have any recommendations for a code reader that will work on my car then? There's that many out there I'm not sure what to look for. A PC one would be good. I've already spent money on software so think student prices for the hardware!

    Cheers.

Yes if you've got £600 or whatever it costs.

Vaux-check from Gendan reads and clears fault codes from all systems except airbags and costs £30 if you want to use it with your existing ELM-327 interface or £80 with their own ELM-327 interface included. Note that it won't program anything like Opcom or Tech2 can.
