Very Bad Day for me.

Woke up this morning to birds singing and weather girls promise of sunshine, went out to the car and started it up as usual, but this time something was different, there was a noise, loud rattling when the clutch was depressed, Oh yes my DMF has failed.

I knew from this forum that it was ok to drive so went about my day as usual.

On my way back from tescos a warning light came to my attention, It was red and had a battery on it, you have got to be kidding me not my alternator aswell.

Got home and out with the multimeter and sure enough 11.15v with car started.

Luckily enough i took out extended warranty

when i bought the car and these problems should not take long to fix, Phoned up dealer (A.C.) and the car was booked in on the earliest free day 13/6/2011

, yes ten days away before they even look at it.

Not broke the news to the wife yet that the car is off the road for the next 2 weeks, so my day could get even worse.

get it done at another dealer nearby mate i take it thats the greenock one try linwood or that does not even need to be a vauxhall any arnold clark

Do DMF's start making a noise all of a sudden? No gradual build up over months?

Mine has been rattling for 100k, personally I don't see what the issue is. It's annoying if it really is anything bad.

Have any of them actually failed on the Vec/Sig? To my knowledge they haven't.

Its been rattling quietly for about 1000 miles, just got really bad today on startup.

Car has done 43000 miles.

I'm going to be your best friend, if its autocare phone the breakdown number and get the AA to tow it in. Your then entitled to a courtesy car/hire car.

i agree with gaz on this one...i bought my vec with 88000 miles on it and a rattly fly,,,theres now 95000 and the rattle is still the same,,unless its sounding like a complete bag of bolts ,,i would not woory too much

I got mine done pretty promptly. It worried me what vibration was getting passed onto the gearbox if the DMF wasn't doing it's job. Would rather pay for DMF than gearbox and DMF.
