any common problems with either to look out for? what are they like for fuel/power, which of the 2 would people recommend? looking around an 03-54 plate

1.8 122 bhp, does about 430 to the tank if u do a chunk of motorway miles. Maybe a bit more if you dont have my heavy foot, lol. My first Vectra C was a 1.8 on a 52 plate and I put 40k on the mileage. Never had any problems with it, good solid engine.
I have a 2.2 Direct and its a good solid engine I drove to Italy in it and was getting 460 to a tank.
However once in the alps I was getting a lot less than that haha them hairpin bends you just want to dig in to them haha
In my opinion both engines are very good
so whats the difference between a normal 2.2 and a 2.2 direct, or are they all direct?
2004 onward its the direct injection engine it has a little bit more torque and bhp and a little better on fuel.
Everyone says that comes at a price with the high pressure fuel pump failures i have had mine 3 years and its gone once 2 years after owning the car but I think that may have been down to a very very hard drive against my friends 3.2 GSI vec 2 days after that the pump went sitting in traffic although the car was getting very hot it could have been co-incidence
Its a very solid engine taking me to europe 3 times and 1 of them was to lake garda this year and it did not let me down on the German Autobahns either
Fantastico
Oh the 2 engines None Direct engine code is Z22SE The Direct is Z22YH
cheers for info guys!
I've had a 2004 1.8 for 4 years now, no complaints about the engine at all.
It's not particuarly quick obviously, but it's certainly on par with most other cars of it's size and a similiar engine size.
I get an average of about 40mpg, about 75% motorway, 25% non-motorway. I've had it up to 48mpg on a long journey when I wasn't in a hurry!
Only thing I've touched under the bonnet was the radiator which started leaking at about 60k (although the problem affects most Vectras as far as I know), asides from the routine cambelt change at about the same time.
Just to add, the direct is fitted to all Signums and Estates.
I had iridium plugs, k and n filter and using nothing but optimax and it was dyno'd at only 151.5bhp.
when I sold the car, I ran it about a week prior without the k and n. the mpg average went up by 3mpg.
I've seen lots of directs lower than 155bhp.
