Wiring help for a bathroom/extractor fan pull cord switch

my old unit broke so i bought a 6amp 2 way switch of ebay it has L1-L2-COM- EARTH. the old one was ancient couldn't really see what was written on it but it had an indicator light on it which the new one hasn't. i have 2 red wires 1 black and 1 green/yellow coming from the bathroom ceiling. its not connected to my bathroom light its wired separate. ive wired it up but no joy i would be forever grateful if anyone can help me.

    Hi
You need to connect the 2 reds into common
    Connect black to L1
The switch is a 2 way unit hence the 3 connections

First question would be how was it wired up before you removed the old switch? Ie where did the reds and the black go? The green / yellow is the earth.

Does the black have a red band round it?

If the red wires were in different terminals
then it would be wired as 2 way switch??
Is there another switch in the circuit ??

    Normally
The reds are the loop in and out I.e. one red is coming
from another light the other red is going to another light

It's difficult to answer your question online mate without seeing the installation, if I were you I'd get an electrician to do it for you, not to be messed around with if you're not sure what you're doing
