    Default Dealer damages our Astra.............

Put our MK4 Astra 1.8 sri into the dealers for a cambelt and water pump change as it needed to get done.

Had first phone call to tell that engine mount was broken and needed to be replaced. I said fine as long as they kept the orginal to show me they could fit a new one. No charge for labour as it has to be removed to do the cambelt.

Had second phone call an hour a couple of hours later saying that the cambelt had been changed but......................

They had dropped the engine and cracked the sump!

Apparently the guy doing the fitting had decided to use an axle stand to hold the engine in place rather than wait for the proper jack that goes on the ramp to become free. Supprisingly the engine slipped off the axle stand and cracked the sump.
So they ordered in a new sump and I should get the car back today but it going to get a full inspection and they are going to have to put it on the ramp for me to check it.

so guys what else could they have damaged in the process????

Depends how far it dropped. I would be looking at engine mounts over stretched, exhaust might be damaged too.

We have the car back with its new sump.

When the service manager called yesterday he said "we have dropped your engine and smashed your sump", today he says "we only cracked your sump". When I pulled him up on his wording he said I never said "dropped".
It seems that the mechanic/monkey did not use a block between the sump and axle stand and it caused a crack in the sump.

I am not sure you are supposed to rest the weight of the engine on the sump but I may be wrong on this.
Checked it over and got it on the ramp and could see no damage, drove it out of the garage and........

the exhaust was banging on the back bracket. Seems they refitted the exhaust too far forward so back on the ramp it went to get it put right. It seems they missed doing a test drive on it.

Got a bit of a discount off my already trade club prices so things are not too bad.
Lets see what the future holds

Normally you can, on a flat surface.... But not on what would be two tiny little points on the end of an axle stand....
