Default Which tyres for my new 18inch rims?

Hi, I've just bought 4 Vxr replicas from lmf and am wondering what size is best for them? I've been using 225/45/17 on my standard rims and don't know if I should keep the 45 or go to 40 ? Any ideas guys. Thanks.

Vauxhall use 45's as standard on 18" rims my mate has got the 18" xp2 wheels as standard, its a nice profile... Not too skinny feeling every bump and not to big a bus tyre looking! 40's wont fill ur arches out as nice! I had 18's vxr reps once wi 40's and they looked too thin for vec c wheel arch. Hope that helps m8

Many thanks jow, it's sitting on eibachs and b4s so as I'm already used to 45 on my 17s I'll keep it to 225/45/18. Thanks mate.

Definatly best mate, that is what vauxhall recomend for 18" on vectras, thats why its 50 profile on 17" on standard. ive got 45's on my 17" sri wheels on apex springs and can feel every stone on road. So god knows what 40's will be like! The vxr reps i had likebi say wore 40's and ended up wi 2 rims cracking, obvioisly tyres too thin for pot holes etc.. Try get sum pics up when fitted, im considerin another set with 45's on this time! Lol

The profile of the side wall is a percentage of the tyre width so a 225/45/18 is very very similar to 215/50/17, 225/45/17 and 235/40/18. So the choice is yours
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

You'll find a huge difference in price between the 2 different sizes.

225/45/18's cost more than 225/40/18's, and the latter are more common, hence more variety and better prices.

I do about 25k miles a year and change tyres every year so I stick with the 40's on my car. feels a bit firm, but with the state of the roads they way they are I don't think it makes a difference.

    The correct size for 8 x 18" is 235 40 18"
    The correct size for 7.5 x 18" is 225 45 18"

You can get the 235 40 18" on a 7.5" rim and it does look OK.

The difference in price these days between 225 40 18" and 225 45 18" is just a couple of pounds.

My advice would be to stick with the correct size.
