    Default Security issue ?

When i unlock my vectra with the remote 1st press opens just the drivers door when you press it again it unlocks all the doors and illuminates the number plate, The number plate stays illuminated with the engine running and no lights on, Surley this gives potential thieves car jackers ect a head start knowing the car is fully open, What i want to know can i turn the number plate lights out when car is fully open it hasnt bothered me in the summer but know daylight not so good its glaring obvious even when i fuel up and leave car unlocked the number plate is giving it away lol

It's called 'door-to-door lighting' and I wouldn't be too surprised if it can be techII'd off.

Following a friend's theft from her car while she paid for petrol, I now fill up... replace cap... close flap... lock car... go pay. Good habit to get into.

I think they used to go out after a set time on mine.

The door to door lighting uses main beam and reversing lights so its not that.

You could wire the number plate lights to the side lights circuit, I don't think it'll show a bulb error on the dash.

Me too, being brought up in South London made me quite aware of how easy car theft was (as victim).
The door to door lighting does annoy me a little as we have an extremely nosey neighbour opposite, and it helps them see who is in the car and who is still in the house.

I did'nt realise the number plate light was 'always on' regardless of the headlights being on or not.

Perhaps that little light is the source of my constant blown bulb false alarms

Meh.... What difference does it make? Thieves are smart. They will see the opportunity whether the light is on or not.
