Default Took my CDTi150 to Marham trackday...

Not entirely sure if this is in the correct forum, so if it's moved I won't be too surprised.

I attended the Marham trackday back in the first weekend of September, but I've been so mental busy with studies this last 2 months, I've not had the chance to report about it.

Basically I go there every year to help out with the running of the event, and usually end up running a safety car.

I was there with the Veccy in April but the brakes on the car were shockingly bad, so couldn't play at all. However, this time I went with a new set of 314mm front stoppers on, game on...

I wasn't running during the event, but at the end of the day all the organisers had a bit a track time, so the track was virtually empty. I must say, the Veccy handles really well...and I do mean that. I've driven a fair few cars in my time, most I have taken to the limit, and the Vec really impresses.

Unfortunately, I've run out time and need to get back to 'work'. I'll post tonight with all the details. Oh and I video'd the session...

So I had two sessions, a 17min and a 9 min. I was happy with just the one session as I didn't want to trash the car, but I got a request from a couple of friends wanting a ride round, so...

The Marham track is quite a punishing track, on tyres and on brakes. A fair few fast bits, followed by hard braking and an abrasive surface to boot. The circuit starts from the paddock and turn 1 is a wide taxiway into the runway. It's very wide and gives a lot of scope for picking your own line, but the entry to the runway is narrow due to the presence of runway lights. A good entry speed for turn 1 is around 80-100, depending how clear it is and how brave you're feeling. The runway section is just over a mile and the car was able to hit 135 before the track deviates from the runway and some heavy braking is required. A hairpin left is very close after the runway and brake timing is critical if you're pushing it. A series of fast slippy corners follow, before a dogleg left-right forces careful car control, particularly when entering at 80. After this, is a 1/4 mile sprint to the starting complex. 115 is reached here before hard braking into a hard left then 90 right. Easy to lose control here. After 90 right, 50 yard straight then kink left-right before merge lane from paddock and onto turn 1.

I had a couple of interesting moments, I might try and get the video up on youtube, it was hard work too. If you do end up watching the vid, listen out for my grunts whilst braking hard and turning...didn't realise I was doing it until I watched it...oh and a couple of girly giggles after some sideways moments...

To be honest, the track is so wide that the sensation of speed is rubbish, but there are a couple of marshallers cars on track that you see me leave behind. Even an MR2 tubby...he was funny, after coming in to the paddock he followed me in and asked me what the *** I had done to the Veccy to make it so fast and was genuinely miffed at it being an oil burner.

    Casualties for the fun:
2x front tyres (235/35/19) - I was fully expecting this as they were just about ready to be changed.
2x front 314mm disks and pads - cooked them big time with the added weight of my passengers. Uprated set on the cards.
1x rear spring - not surprised at all given all the shenanigans.
1x rear tyres - bit surprised by this one, only discovered it at the tyre centre when it was up getting a front wheel alignment. Maybe too much sliding the backend...

Still very much worth it though, would reccomend to anyone.

Definately worth it fella, if nothing else just to see what the car's capable of.

Just remembered that I lost a locking wheel nut (NSF) on the day as well, today I spotted a mark on the nearside rear passenger door that looks like it was made by a spinning wheel nut...horse ****.

I've been meaning to edit it down to managable chunks. I'll try and get them up tomorrow.
