    Default knocking noise from rear

    Hi,
My vectra 56 cdti 150 has a slight knocking/rattling noise from rear while driving along rough/uneven roads. There is no noise on smooth surface. Would it be most likely the drop link rods?
Also after reading on here, should I clean the ERG Valve, boost sensor and throttle housing to avoid future problems.?
Car is approaching 80k. Going to get timing belt done, water pump then.
    Cheers

Don't know about the knocking. Have you checked your exhaust?

Also, EGR valve, boost sensor and throttle housing cleans are done by quite a few members every 3 / 6 months and are really easy if you follow the How2's posted on this site. I've just done mine for the first time by following the How2's and advice from others and car is running the best it has done since I got it.

Could be drop links, arb bushes or upper control arms. Easiest way to diagnose UCAs is to grab the road wheel at 12 o'clock and tug it sharply, if you hear a knocking noise they need replaced.

The arb bushes are not so easy to diagnose as even although the look ok the could still be the problem

Probably drop links or anti roll bar bushes

Does the rear have drop links? As I have the same on my Signum. Tried tuggy the wheel on the front and nothing. Even tried tugging the drop link when of full lock and doesn't seem to be any play. But cant work out if its front or rear.

This will sound daft, but have you checked the two side storage compartments in the back for anything loose? I carry a few simple tools in mine, and have them wrapped to stop rattles.

    boot lid rattle ?

if so some insulation tape aroudn the metal post on the catch fixes it ;-) 2 or 3 turns round it.

Thanks lads for all your replies, its deff not exhaust, items in rear compartments or boot lid rattle. I'll jack her up and see is there any movement at wheel. Its nothing serious, but will have to get it sorted for first mot.
    Cheers

If your doing the test for upper control arms as I suggested, do it on the ground
