Hi guys my first post so here goes. Just got 2005 facelift vectra cdti 150. which drove very well with plenty poke, however next morning when started from cold it sounded rough and had a slight missfire. So i had a look on internet and found this great forum which i read about a few common faults like egr swirl valves dmf etc ( thanks guys for your input )The vectra has 114,000 miles and clutch dmf has just been replaced so no worries there. I decided to check egr etc so removed engine cover and to my horror found the rod connecting the swirl valve lying there not connected at all URGHH. I could not understand how it still ran ok with plenty power and no warning lights. Not put off i removed throttle body and cleaned it up also removed the butterfly valve, next egr removed stripped and cleaned, then removed cleaned boost sensor. Lastly removed snorkle thing from bottom of air box. replaced cleaned parts but left butterfly valve from throttle body off crossed my fingers and started it up and it ran smooth with no missfire and is a lot more responsive. To compare i got a try in a friends low milage cdti 150 with swirl flaps intact and my car is noticably faster with swirl valves not working. (dont know how). my concern is do i replace inlet manifold which is lots of money or use it as it is as it runs mintwhith no smoke or warning lights, will i damage engine using it like this. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Secondly, did nobody read the mans question? See below.

gipa - im not sure myself to be honest what would be better, but I have read that people have run cars with the swirl bar hanging off for a quite a while. There is a quick DIY repair available using some tap washers, but I guess eventually you will have to have the entire manifold replaced. As you have already mentioned, these things are well expensive so keep scouring ebay for one and buy one from there when one comes along, and then get it fitted.

Best of luck and enjoy the forum dude.

    Bye bye Vec B
