Default What MPG on first tank

I've just picked up my new SRi 2.0 CDTI 160 auto. Nice car but I've used half a tank full of fuel and it's done about 200, computer average is 35mpg!! I've done mostly motorway driving and not too heavy footed. I just hope it gets better and I'm putting it down to the first tank of fuel. Did other experience this?

Also, anything over 70mph I wind noise from the passengers side, like a constant whistle, again anyone else come across this?

Diesels take a lot of time to run in. I have found that you need to have done as much as 25K miles before you get the best fuel effciency from one. I have never owned a brand new deisel (cleste to brnad new had 10K miles on the clock) so I can image they are hard on the fuel at first. Also you don't buy an automatic if you are worried about mpg! My father and wife drive almost identicle cars. The only difference is my wifes has a manual and my father an automatic. She averages almost 10 mpg better than he does.

Having an Auto shouldn't be an excuse for poor fuel economy, ok it will be less but not drastically different, there should be 3mpg difference (average mpg) between auto and manual 47 auto, 50 manual. If you're not worried about MPG then you buy a large petrol auto, not diesel.

From the 250 miles driven 230 were motorway so I would expect it to be near the 47 figure, 35mpg is pants and I've had more from the BMW 530i Auto it replaced. Remember this is MY 11 so meant to have improved MPG. Hopefully it will get better with time. Having driven auto’s and manuals from other manufacturers (mainly BMW) I’ve had near identical fuel and performance figures, particularly on motorways.

I just wanted to know if this was normal and if anyone come across the wind noise I mentioned.

I'm pretty sure that Maverick noticed poor economy from his when he got it. Maybe worth searching through his posts

I believe the Insignia is a heavier car than the Vectra 2.0 isn't much more than 1.9 to drag the extra weight. The slaesman I had my SRi from had one for a runaround, and he said it was worse on performance and economy than the Vec 1.9.

I don't think it is much heavier, about 140kg I think. Performance is fine, just fuel use, I'll be happy with 40mpg average, so hopefully it will get there.

My Astra should be 57mpg, I'm getting 43mpg from my second tank and I'm still running it in so hopefully this should increase, the range for tank No2 is 540 miles so its not much better than my XP2.

From memory it took 5000-10000 for the Vectra I've just replaced to settle down so I expect the Astra to be the same, what you need is a trip to Thorney, you've expect to see 50-70 mile increase to a tank once they have tweaked the software.

Cheers, is it an auto and did the MPG get better over time?

I'll have to get the dealer to look at the wind noise.

    Default 160 CDTI Auto

    Hiya

I have a '09 160 CDTI Auto & I'm getting about 450 Miles to a tank, which is about 75% motorway. The manual's are better but I don't think thats too bad.

I have wind noise on the drivers window on the motorway (I think every vauxhall does it!) :-( I daren't take it back to the dealers as so far everything I have reported is 'no fault found'

    So far I've found:

    Wind Noise on Motorway
    Creaking centre console
    Buzzing/rattle/vibration on dashboard/mirror
Terrible ride, caused by EP Tyres Accelera's (Replaced them with Kumho KU31's)
    Heavy Steering/Pulling to onside

But other than that its a good car!

    Rawy
