Facelift or pre-face? I've noticed that the pre-face seems to be worse for stone chips

My Vectra (34K miles) has no real problems. I did look at a Zafira and its whole front end had more chips than paint. The worst car I owned fro this was a 97 Skoda Felicia with solid paint. On the way home from the dealer on the M11 heading towards London a lorry threw up a stone which made a huge chip on the bonnet. I was gutted.
