    Default Custom charges

Hi just need a bit of advice ive just purchased a sat nav off ebay from china for £50 including the postage, Just read the small print

We don't answer for any custom duty. some country needn't any custom duty such as USA and Australia. some country need custom duty,it is Canada,Turkey,Brazil,Uruguay... ...when we send the phone out, we will declare it's $36 as a gift on the package, we hope this can help you shun the customs, if you still need to pay for the customs, we won't responsible for this.

what i want to know if im likley to be charged customs duty if so roughly how much and how do i pay do they write to me or does the postman collect it when he delivers it any help advice will be appriciated
    cheers Daz

If its stopped and opened it will be accessed at the 'real value' not $36 or even £50 but what it is worth (equivalent Tom-Tom price), then the postage is added with Duty and VAT on the total, the final carrier will charge a fee of probably £18 to cover their costs in paying the VAT etc.

With luck it wont be opened.

i order from China/Tiawan/Singapore on a regular basis, and to date have never been stung for custom charges.

The USA is a complete different ball game! Every single thing i have bought from there, and with the sender taken as many precautions as possible to avoid, i have been stung everytime. Not only do you get hit for the customs charge, Royal mail will then add an £8 administration fee on top!

At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask when he robbed you... unlike RM!
