a word of warning

For the last few weeks ive been getting a rattling noise coming from the pulleys, after a bit of messing i found it to be the crankshaft pulley (outer) so on thursday i was on my way to by a new pulley, (£81 from euro) when the pulley decided to snap of, luckily no damage was caused. So took it to my m8s garage to use the ramps, and started removing the nessasary bits to get the pulley of.

According to tis and autodata, the pulley is held on with 4 ribe bolts, so i removed them and tried to remove the remains of the cs pulley. Would it budge no. So after having a good look at it, i noticed that the centre bolt was also holding the remains of the pulley on. Problem with this is the bolt also holds the inner cs pulley onto the block. So to remove the remains i had to remove the centre bolt and try and seperate the outer from the inner without pulling the inner of.

Anyway, it didnt work and i ended up removing the inner cs pulley too. Even thought the inner pulley is located with a woodruf it still came of. So i had to buy a new cambelt kit and fit.

According to vx, some of the older pulleys were fitted like this, which is stupid tbh.

Just bear in mind guys that your pulley might be the same

the crank pulley is only held on with with the 4 bolts the larger centre bolt holds the cambelt pulley on , so you only needed to undo the 4 bolts then tap the pulley as they usually seize on

thats what i thought, but trust me the centre bolt was also holding the outer pulley on, when i removed it all the bolt hole on the pulley was only big enough for the bolt shaft.

everybody else was baffled, but thats what i found

no mate thats all that holds it , im a tech for Alfa Romeo and the 1.9cdti is a Alfa JTD engine , the crank pulleys seize on the centre but a few taps with a hammer and they split

ill upload a pic of the said pulley and you can judge for yourself, i thought the same, as i couldnt understand why it would be held on with the centre and the other 4 bolts but it was.

they sure did, the piece thats on the right of the two pieces is what was left bolted to the inner pulley.

if you look inside the piece that was left you can see where the centre bolt was holding it onto the pulley
