Default 10k Boost Treatment vs Normal Carb Cleaner

    Hello,

What is the difference with 10k Boost £20 a can or £4 a can Carb Cleaner?

They both have the same guides on the back of the can for spraying it into the air intake while revving to 2.5k

Will it harm my Diesel 2.2 to use standard Carb Cleaner?

    Don't know.

I used the 10k Boost a week ago on my 1.9 CDTi Vectra (54 plate) with 78k on the clock and could immediately feel the difference. Felt more responsive than it used to.

Not sure. When I used carb cleaner to clean my boost sensor it went like a glue does when you get it on your hand. Not sure if this stuff is mean't to go in.

Some people have used it or at least looked at the chemical comparisons between that and 10k boost and said it's basically the same thing.

I personally would stick to 10k boost. Others may suggest otherwise.

I have a couple of threads that I ran called: -
    Calling all 10k boost users
    10k boost - Should or shouldn't I

Have a read and see what responses were put on there. Might help you make a decision.

    This is from Carbon Angel:

"You are spraying this into the air inlet, which means first the 10k boost has to go through:

    Turbo
    Intercooler
    Throttle Body

At which point it will collect the crap from the inlets/throttle body

The air will then go into the valves then into the cylinder

Comes out of the cylinder into the turbo again (as exhaust drives your turbo)

All the little bits of crap that survived the ignition in the cylinder will then hopefully not damaged your turbine blades.

So eventually yes, it goes out through the exhaust, but it has to go through your engine first. ""

DOES THIS MEAN IT CAN CAUSE problems in other places?

    Good question.......anyone??

Surely the "bits of crap" are just soot, rather than large pieces of shrapnel??

Yes I'm sure they could. When I used it on the Shogun my dad drives, I thrashed it up the motorway for 2 junctions in third and fourth so it screamed its head off then pootled home like normal to do the treatment. With any luck this will have burnt a lot of the crap off first. I did the treatment straight away and what a difference.

I'm sure some damage could occur if the turbo sucked in a large piece of debris but the chances of this seem somewhat slim. After cooking the manifold on the motorway to burn it off from the exhaust side I wasn't worried about something going through the turbo from there. If something manged to survive the burning in the intake manifold then even if it got into a cylinder I should imagine it would just become a puff of smoke with the explosion and be forced out with the rest of the exhaust gases.

    Hang on a second...

How could there be a bit of "shrapnel" in the engine to start with?

If there was then I would guess there would be something wrong with your car as the "shrapnel" would have to come off an engine part.

AFAIK there is no other way for a piece of shrapnel to enter the system due to all the filters used in the various systems and it could not come from any of the fluids / gases that are used in the system as they are all "burnable" in the combustion process.

The way I am thinking about it is your only inputs are air (filtered), oil (filtered) & diesel (filtered). Only outputs after combustion are soot (carbon) and hot air.

I cannot see any of these being able to form a solid material that would equate to anything that could damage something like a turbo blade.

If I am wrong, then someone please correct me but I am pretty sure this is the case.

Anyway, I used 10k boost around 2 -3 weeks ago and the car is the best it has ever driven.
