    Default cambelt change

I am planning to change the cambelt on my 2006 vectra 1.9cdti. Would it be wise to change the water pump at the same time? Would appreciate any comments from more experienced members.

Yes, most people change the water pump at the same time.

I've always been told it should be done at the same time, easier to do when its off and if that fails then goodbye belt.

Thanks guys, I'll do just that. When I had a renault Trafic I was advised to do the same but was not sure of the Vectra.

The waterpump is the main cause of belt failure. Yes, wise to change it at the same time.

Just done mine along with a cambelt kit!, pump failure at 62k!!, please remember to put sealant on the bolt threads!!, I also put a little on the bolt shafts, this is required due to the bolts going into water & oil cavity's.

I've just been off the phone to Vx. They told me timing belt change has been reduced to 80k miles and that it would be wise to change the water pump at the same time. The mechanic also told me that he has seen water pumps fail well before 80k miles.

I think I'm gonna change my timing belt at 40k as the scare stories are all too common. Between 40 and 50k miles seems to be the most common failure time. It doesn't help that my car is now 6 years old with 38k on the clock. For the sake of an extra £50 for the waterpump I think it's well worth changing.

Just paid £220 cash at my local indep garage - that was for MOT, service, cambelt and water pump. I supplied the belt and pump and bought good quality OE parts for £108 delivered. and got the stamp in the book!

Mind you I did push my luck as car had 102k on the clock, so I was driving around nervously for a bit.
