Default Painting advice before work starts tomorrow please !

    Hi all,

Already had some good advice from Jezzy and Keithy but one more question. Here are some pics below.

Basically, there was two small areas that had a bit of paint missing. I picked at it and to my suprise the paint almost fell off for some reason ?!? So I carried on , thinking it would be best to start from scratch. Now, Ive come to a point in which the paint will no longer peel off....

    1) Do I get a heat gun, lightly blow over it and finish what I started >

    2) Do I sand the edges down, where ive picked, so its smooth and carry on as normal by roughing up the rest of the bumper and priming it ?

Pics to explain my problem.. Thanks all

I would sand it as flat as possible mate, then use a plastic prime/builder with a few coats, sanding between each to make sure you have a completly smooth finish

Cheers mate, so you mean you would not bother to take any more paint off, just sand the edges flat, build it up with a few coats of primer, but using wet&dry inbetween ?

i would try sanding it flat (if you can) then just keying the rest.

However if you cant get it totally flat. Strip the whole lot off.

Some clear coats can be a nightmare to sand flat

hello mate, i would say to sand the whole bumper down as if you have got area's flaking then its better to be safe than sorry as could well mean person before didnt use plastic primer which would cause the paint to flake off.

True, didnt think of that. Its hard to flake off now, so will give it a little heat and see what happens.

    Thanks both

no worries mate, let us know how you get on with it, also dont forget to give the bumper a good clean with panel wipe before priming up.
