    Default Changed 2.2DTi aux belt

The Mrs' 2.2DTi had started squeaking something terrible when started from cold. I decided it was the aux belt and went to the local motor factors to buy a replacement. They didn't have the correct size so £15 later I was on my way home with a belt thats 5mm longer than the standard one.

Once I had the belt off I noticed that the tensioner had roughly 2 cm of play in its 'untensioned' state. Not side to side play, but movement in the way the tensioner applies tension to the belt. Has anyone else noticed this?

I was concerned that it may have been the tensioner causing the noise, but the pulley spins freely and smoothly and the tensioner movement is silent, too.

Anyways, the belt went back on and tensioned nicely. The extra 5mm didn't cause a problem.

I started the car and it stayed silent. Yay! Job=success.

Ta. She's a pain in the backside with cars.

If only she realised sooner that her MOT was up last Friday. (She noticed on Wednesday) It went in and failed on a rear suspension arm bush. It cost her £96 to get it changed by the garage.

I could have done it for £15-20.

On two occassions I've driven two of her cars (this is one of them) and I've noticed the rear brakes are grinding. I've got round to changing the pads and discs and there has been nothing but backing plate left on the pads!

    The flipping dafty.

The aux belt is easy to change, pull up on the tensioner, release belt, fitting is the reverse.

No pics or How To, sorry. Its quite straightforward to change the belt, but can be fiddly routing the new one and getting it over the tensioner at the same time.

I removed the airbox to get access. Also the covers behind the drivers front wheel are in the way, so remove them, too.

Whilst it may be easy, having three hands would have made it a breeze.
