    Default Glow Plugs.

Going to change the glow plugs on my 2.2Dti.

Anything to watch for and is it best to remove them with the engine warm or cold?

Best to remove them when the engine is hot mate, try soaking in some wd40 a few days before as they are known to be a pita to get them out.

Lastly DO NOT force them, the will break and the head may have to come off the get them out

Just changed my glow plugs. Really wasn't difficult.

To make access easy you need to remove the cowl from the turbo and unbolt the trunking for the glow plug wires from the side of the cylinder head.

It is difficult to remove the plug that sits under the turbo spigot. I fitted a piece of 1/2" square metal bar into the end of the 10mm socket and then turned the socket with an open ended spanner on the 1/2" metal bar. Reason being that was no room to fit the rachet to the socket. If you have a 3/8" socket there may be enough room to fit the rachet to the socket.

You remove the caps from the plugs by squeezing the sides of them. This is also difficult because of the lack of room, but all in all a very good result.

Result mate, did you use some copper grease on them to stop them seizing in?

    Hi John
No I didn't use any copper grease as this makes it too easy to overtighten the plugs and as it isn't used in initial assembly, nor recomended in TIS, I thought it unwise.

    Others however may think differently.
