    Default Remote locking (again?)

I'm getting really hacked off with finding my doors unlocked/windows open when I get to the car in the morning. It's doesn't happen very often (about 10 times in the last year) but this morning the car was locked but both front windows were open and there was more rainwater in the car than outside.

I don't know what causes it but I guess it may be squashing the keys in my pocket?

Is there any way to stop the unlocking/window opening from happening? Perhaps reduce the effective range of the remote? I haven't noticed any self-closing happening that I have read about in other threads.

Car is a v54 sri with rain sensors and very soggy front seats .

if it's got rain sensors and you're deadlocking the car then the windows should close automatically, even if accidentally opened or left open.

do you double lock the car?

it happened to me yesterday - was so thankful that the windows closed by themselves.

    Thanks for the reply Harry.

As far as I am aware I double-lock the car every time. That's why I was wondering if I squashed the keys when in the house and the remote range was too big?

even if you did accidentally sit on the keys you would've had to apply permanent pressure to the open button for at least 10 seconds for the car to unlock and the windows to wind down.

coming back to the car and seeing the doors locked in this situation isn't a surprise as the doors will lock themselves after 30 seconds if you haven't opened a door.

what i don't know for sure is if it would lock the doors even after the windows have been remotely opened - may go and try that now actually.

i assume you've taken it to a dealer to try and sort it out, what have they said?

interesting - i just did the test.

opened the car and kept the button pressed in order to open the windows

didn't open a door and after a little while the doors locked - the windows didn't close though!!

also noticed that i could still deadlock the car after it had locked itself.

which means that you could be pressing the button accidentally, because i think i've read before that unless the car is deadlocked, the rain sensor will not close the windows if left open.

if you unlock your car, and DONT open any doors, after a small period of time they will re-lock automatically..

Yes the windows will only self close due to the rain sensor, if the car is deadlocked..

Thanks everyone. I think you have highlighted the problem - If you accidentally unlock the doors, they don't deadlock again. I will post an update after I have spoken to my dealer.

Happened to me several times once on holiday the windows stopped half way so I must have stopped sitting on the remote. Several other times its happened when the car is on the drive and I am in my office on the first floor, the neighbour has knocked to say all my windows were open, the doors were locked but not deadlocked.

Its more than a nuisance really I think its a security problem as the alarm siren is not that loud and is likely to get ignored and anyway it only takes a second to nick things.
