    confused All revs no go!

    Hi there,

My car (1.9 cdti 150) is being very slugish lately and like the title says its all revs and no go!

I cleaned the boost sensor on it yesterday which seems to help then but when I turned the car back on today it was back to its sluggish ways!

The spanner light is always on on first start up of the day and the other way to get it off is to pull over after a mile and restart the engine!

I've had the diagnostics done on it at Kwik fit and it came up with glow control unit error - I changed the relay and the glow plugs and the same error is still there - I've had the error erased but it comes back as soon as the engine is cold

    Any ideas???

I doubt the glow plugs would cause it to be sluggish. Difficult to start maybe but not cause it to not have as much power. Pick up a bottle of injector cleaner from Halfords or a local car shop. Always used Redex in mine and put that in the tank. When did it last have a service? Could be a blocked fuel filter.

As to the glow plugs, it could be the controller itself has given up and clearing the code will make no difference, however I'm not sure on that one. Better wait for someone with more experience!

Judging from the internet the glow control unit is about £40ish.

Is it only sluggish when the engine is cold?

I would see about getting the part sorted that the car is complaining about first. It's amazing the problems a glow plug/system can cause when not functioning correctly. I wouldn't be surprised if that fixes your issue tbh but I wouldn't know why.

    Hope you get it fixed.

I've been putting Redx in it and doesn't seem to do much to be honest, it got serviced about a month ago, and has had new glow plugs and a glow relay (control unit) last week! The light use to go off on its own after a few minutes of driving but now it stays on unless restarted

Just hoping its not the glow circuits now thats the only thing I haven't changed

Oh and its mainly sluggish when the engine is cold for about 20miles of driving then when I come back in it to go home its not as sluggish! still not as nippy as when I got it though!

Did you get it diagnosed after you replaced the relay?

On some cars the glow plugs can be on for a period of time after the Pre heat warning light has went out. If there's a fault it will cause sluggish running in cold conditions until the engine has reached operating temperature.

Yeah I did, the same fault came up again! I've brought it to the garage and they just said they don't know why and it could be the circuits then as I've replaced the glows and the control unit just don't want to be paying lots of money for them to just find the problem!!!

It could be something as stupid as a broken connector (believe me this engine seems to develope them ).

You may need to take it to a an auto spark, or if someone has any information and access to TIS, they could tell you what connections to check with a multimeter and the readings you should get from each of these connections. If it is a circuit problem you will find it very quickly that way.

I know the feeling I ended up removing a part of the engine as I was fed up the issues an electrical fault was causing.
