Question about electrics on throttle body

I have a question that I thought someone out there might be able to answer, took my throttle body off today and cleaned it as it was coked up the question is this , the part next to throttle body that is enclosed it plastic, when we took the lid off where the electric circuit board is was covered in what looked like really runny wattery oil, should this oil be there ? ? ? ?

hopefully the answer is no and I can go out and buy a new throttle body and my car will run smoothly , oh and its an 05 vectra c , 1.9cdti , 150 auto

Hi john, i cleaned mine out completely and didnt cure the issue i was having. I know gazza has had more success by removing the plate as he thinks it may be closing when it shouldnt be. Could try that before buying a new one?

Yeah the plate was closing effectively shutting the engine down.

My theory behind it is that some electrical fault had developed - open circuit on the PCB etc and it made the Throttle body think that the engine had been switched off hence, it would shut over. The valve is spring loaded in the 'open' position so something had been trigering the TB electrics to shut the valve over - imo.

Hope you get it sorted.

As for the oil, it shouldn't be there m8.

It now looks like the shaft seal allows oil past due to the pressure in the intake and it fills up this unit and eventually causes it to fail!

Typically its the electrical joints on the PCB which give up - the oil doesn't help the stepper motor though.

Had a look at the joint and all seemed ok but ya need ****** good eyesight to check , think I might take it off again and resolder them all anyway , cant do any harm by doing this , oh and thanks for the pm Gazza , didnt realise they could be that expensive , think your right though, gonna deffo make sure it is this before purchasing new one.
