    Default Injector seals 2.0 Dti

I seem to be getting more and more white smoke on startup and it smells of diesel the mechanic who did my tech2 today said he thought it was injector seals so im thinking of paying them to check the seals first, they said they check it with a vacuum pipe on leakoff nipples.

    My question is

Is this a reliable way of telling the seals are leaky ?

if you smell diesel and have white smoke your barking up the wrong tree with the seals ...the seals allow the fuel to return to the tank hence the none start there isnt any fuel in the system ...i would be looking at the swirl bar in the inlet manifold and the inlet manifold trackt for cokeing up ....or sticking swirl flaps .. a vac test will check if the seals are ok ...one ruff way is to check if there is engine oil in the leak off pipes a direct way to say the seals are on there way out ...

Cheers benny but looking on numerous forums regarding white smoke and diesel smell they all seem to say its a common problem with the Y20DTH and thats seals
Dont think the Y20DTH has swirlflaps plus sometimes it takes a good 7 or 8 cranks to start then i get a cloud of smoke and then it clears

y20dth was the first vx enigne to have swirl flaps for starting ... the white vac pipe on the front of the engine is where the swirl flaps are you will see a leaver with a vac diaphram on it this leaver should move freely .....and the lower part of the manifold needs to be clean ..... one little test is disconect the coolant temp sensor and see if that makes it better to start if it does it needs a ecu reprogram ....

It starts better on glowplugs if i turn my key a few times to heat plugs up it starts first time with no smoke but it hasnt been cold enough for them to come on.
So if i unplug coolant temp sensor it will chuck glowplugs on yeah ?

yes it will chuck them on ...but that isnt the test ...the vec diesel has had a weak ecu map and it some times comes out ...there was a feild rem for it some where ... im not saying it isnt the seals but it is worth doing a few free checks before spending lots of cash ....

plus if it is the seals the fault would be the same every time ..giveing it more glow plugs wouldnt make a difference the fuel will leak back to the tank all the same if you follow me ..
