We have put an entry on for this in my mate's RWD R1 powered Mini. Should be a giggle if we get a run. Come over and say hello if you get there.

Still waiting to hear if we have been allocated a run on this as it is always well over subscribed. I am actually sitting out of navigating on this one due to building myself a new garage and all the associated costs. Will deffo be there though, we have already booked Liverpool Docks travelodge so even if we don't get a run we are still going for a night out in Liverpool and a bit of speccying on the rally.

Had notification through that we have got an entry for the rally. Should be a cracking day. As I said in my last post I am delegating the navigating duties on this one to save a few quid whilst I build my new garage and to save up for a championship assault next year. However will be there with the crew so if you do make it pop into the service area and say hello. Ours is the RWD R1 powered Mini - trust me it'll be easy to spot, the only Mini there hanging the rear end out under power and sounding like it should be in a World Superbike race

Not quite a Z-Cars kit Mark. This was the first Mini that Chris Allanson (Mr Z-Cars) ever did. Lives just a few miles from us and often pop in to see what he is up to. We had a conventional Mini with a full MBE race engine and Jack Knight dog box which was a superb bit of kit but then got offered an excellent rolling shell with an awesome cage in it at a great price. The idea was just to swap the running gear into the better shell but then had a few beers and started getting silly.

The main difference between this and all the other Z-Cars Mini's is that the engine is in the front as required by rallying regulations. Runs via a custom prop to a Quaife reverse box and then to a Sierra Cosworth diff housing with a ZF limited slip diff. Absolute hoot to drive, you can't help getting out with a big grin on your face. Doesn't go to bad in a straight line either, out dragged a TR8 on the straight at Cadwell Park and that had pukka 4.2 in it.

So all the benifits of the current Z-car setup without the cabin noise of a hayabusa screaming behind your head

Fast mini's and I go back a way

Same amount of cabin noise, just comes from in front of you. Fuelling is set on the generous side and every gearchange is accompanied by a pop and a large flame ejected from the exhaust which exits out the side just behind the passenger door, Had to weld a box into passenger side floor to let the silencer tuck up out of the way and my seat basically sits on top of this so you definitely get the full hardcore effect. Doors are just the thinnest ali skin, carbon fibre one piece front, bonnet and boot lid so 12500 rpm's of screaming R1 just gets resonated round the cabin. Had to bin original intercom and my mate had to buy a £400 Peltor helmet just so he could hear me.
Having seen your mechanical abilities Mark I reckon you ought to build one of his kits - you and fast Mini's could go forward a way
