    Default DMF Failures

Just wondering what is the usual mileage low to high that the DMF's start to fail? is there a guide, is there a style of driving that increases the failure rate?

I have been to look at a Vectra with 34K, it is 3 years old today and it was having a new DMF and clutch pack as I viewed it.

1.9cdti 150 with a tuning box running 197bhp- it lasted 18 months old and 36k
Then second went at 57k but was with out a box? I do drive it hard but now out of warranty I do tend to be a little more careful. Still a **** design tho

The short answer is "no" - there seems to be no discernible pattern as to what causes it or at what mileage. There are threads on here saying the DMF failed at 30k, and the replacement failed at 44k, etc, and there are obviously people who have done 100k+ with no DMF issues whatsoever. The only pattern is that it's more likely to fail on a diesel engine than a petrol one (mainly because of the extra vibration, but also because of the extra torque), but that doesn't mean petrol engined cars aren't affected.

Again thanks guys, I would be getting a Vx warranty on this particular car for two years, and I have decided to take the car pending full inspection once I can see more than the underside as I say it was having the DMF replaced today.

So it begins again for me!

From how I understand it its down to the driving style.

Its the springs that go weak so the more you load it the quicker they will loose tension. So gentle acceleration will/should make them last longer.

My dads got an SRI CDTI 150 2005/55 Facelift, we had it changed under warranty when the car was 2 years old and had 8000 miles on it (literally as soon as we bought it).

My cousin has a CDTI 120 Club 2005/05 Pre-Facelift with 92'ish K on it, and it has just gone!

    Work that one out!
