    Default 4 new tyres required

    Hello everyone.

My Vec is running on 215 50 17's at the moment.

By the weekend I want a good set of 225 45 17's fitted.

Looking at Michelin Pilot Sport 3's, coming in around the £430 mark fitted.

I appreciate there are an unfathomable amount of tyre threads on here, but my question is:

What would you fit? Brand? Know of any bargain sites? Budget is £450.

    Thanks in advance.

If you are doing a lot of country road driving (50/60mph) then I would also go for the Michelin (it is always my first choice)

However, they are quite expensive and the Vectra C isn't really suited to them

If you are doing about one quarter dual carriageway / Motorway driving, or more, then look at the GoodYear F1 range
These tyres should be no more than £100 each fitted
They will last about 90% of the mileage on the Michelin, but are slightly quieter than the Michelin
Overall the cost per mile is about the same

    One final note
Try to source the Michelin Pilot Sport with *G1 fitting
This should also reduce the price by about £5 per tyre, but includes rim protectors, which the standard fitting does not

threads about tyres seem to go on for ever, get the tyres you want.

use black circles, they have a vectra tyre test, some extra info.

I would go vredistein, kuhmo. I've heard good things about the new hankook.

Thanks m8. Great tips. I'm roughly 70% country, 30% motorway.

Don't wanna sound like a tight arse, but another stipulation is that I don't want something that's only gonna last a year!

I'm also considering the Uniroyal Rainsport 2's. They're cheaper and seem to get great reviews.

As winter is on its way I would really avoid the Goodyear eagle F1 , however in summer it is a great tyre.
Michelin Pilot Sport 3 is a good tyre, and I can see no reason for not going for that.
You can end up with so many recommendations you won`t know what to buy.
Loads of tyre stuff on here to read , but in the end it just shows you how many people have a different view.

btw I agree for the price I think the Rainsport is a top buy

Uniroyal Rainsport 2 £82.28 fitted at Kwik Fit.

Surely they can't muck it up!?

With tracking the whole lot comes in at a sniff under £400.

I think I've made my mind up gents.

Blimey. What a short tyre thread!

I've not had any problems on this tyre in winter (slush and snow up 5 inches)
One I would avoid for winter is the Dunlop

That's the main reason I have previously bought Michelin tyres
However it is a harder compound so gives more road noise and less grip in the wet
Although it's specification is not much different to the Good Year (the main difference there is the tread)

If you want to compare like for like tyres then look at the UTQG ratings, although officially we don't use them in Europe
Basically the lower the rating the softer they are, and typically less miles they will do (if all driven to the same specification)

The highest mileage will come from a non-directional tyre, but there aren't many of these for the 215/50R17 or 225/45R17
Also, these are the most expensive at near on £200 each
These tyres can last about 30% more than the tyres you are already looking at, but again the road noise puts many people off
