Default Caravan Club do not rate the Insignia Estate

This months Caravan Club Magazine has a review of the Insignia Estate. Over all they were not impressed. They said that the brand new car had a very unpleasant smell (from the plastics or fabric), and that despite having multiple adjustments they never did feel that they could get the drivers seat/steering wheel right for comfort. In terms of towing they were given a 1.6 petrol by VX for the review which despite having 170bhp they felt was not up to the job as they said that you had to have the engine at rediculously high revs to get the turbo to kick in, making it a noisey experience with loads of gear changing. They summed up by saying that it was well behind the class leaders (Superb and Mondeo) and is a backward step even from the Vectra estate!

they should have used the diesel (160) and benefitted from the torque

Defo the wrong engine choice, as for demarking a car on the smell

They commented that they would have preferred the CDTi but VX only had a test 1.6 petrol fitted with a tow bar! Certainly the Vectra CDTi 150 pulls with ease.

How stupid of VX to give them the wrong motor for tow testing lol...

I dont think Vauxhall spent millions of pounds developing a super slick modern family car packed with advanced technology to keep a bunch of travellers happy with their caravans

I think they should introduce stability and crash testing on Caravans to get NCAP road safety ratings... I would pay to watch that !!

Then I would still rather have an Insignia as a Mondeo estate.

??? Not sure what you mean, how can an insignia be a Mondeo estate?

I have talked to a few guys with the Insignia Estate when I have been away with my caravan and all have been the cdti 160 and all thought it was a great motor. At the minute though I am so impressed with my Vec for towing I really dont need to change in the near future but the Estate version would be more practical than my hatchback.
I havent towed with the standard engine output as I run the EDS Remap with the 190 High Torque option and WOW it pulls like a freight train and I always wave goodbye to to other makes when a hill comes along.

My 1.9CDTi (150) Vectra is standard and pulls my caravan with ease. It is also a stable combination - again something I forgot to mention that the Insignia did poorly on, becoming twitchy at 60mph in the review.
