Default Have You Read The Highway Code?

As title. I read it cover to cover when I was 16 and when I getting ready for my tests. I also use the website for reference.

I know we live in an electronic world these days, but I think the DVLA should send out a hard copy to every licence holder once every 5 or 10 years. Even if only 5% of people actually read through it maybe driving standards could get better.

i dont think you could pass your test without reading it. Mind you quite a few who cant read and are too thick to ever be able to are driving so who knows.

I did a long time ago, but no doubt they've added to it since. Most of the important stuff in there is just common sense, but of course you have to know about road signs etc.
The petty stuff in there I can do without. No plans to read the latest version.

Read it and refer to it from time to time since new versions regularly appear. Member of IAM and we have quizzes based on it from tiem to time.

I'm sure of course that there are lots of drivers out there who just know instinctively what's right and care little or nothing for the code

Recently had another driving test (Refresher, I guess you could call it) Was important to me so didnt really want to fail. Read the through the highway code, just thought "It will be fine" but if im honest, although I knew most of it still, it certainly had me thinking....

Ive always thought, with increased confidence, comes a decrease in general knowledge and a more laxy-daisy view to driving. Does that make sense ? Bit of a wierd one. Its mad when you actually think how we take driving for granted...

yup, i think youre right there, over confidence in ones own ability is one of the biggest problems on the road. youve only got to watch some of the traffic cop tv programmes to see at least 1 cocky kid, whos just passed his test, driving way beyond their capabilities, attracting the rozzers attention.

personally, i think its a good idea to get a copy of the highway code every so often, as laws & the rules of the road change, otherwise, how are we supposed to keep up to date? if you get stopped by plod for doing something wrong, pleading ignorance is no defence.

might give 2010 update a go with an open mind. Not expecting revelations though.
