Not owned a VXR but i've got a mapped 2.8T Signum (same engine) and I love it. They are really rapid especially when mapped. If you have a heavy right foor then you'll get late teens mpg, but driven carefully round town and you should get 24 mpg. on a run you'll be looking at mid 30's at a push. Well worth it in my eyes. Tax is a lot at £425 a year but if you can afford it go for it i'd say.

Because as standard the Vectra VXR is an expensive car to run with small gains over a tuned 1.9 CDTi (which is far more economical).

I've owned both, and a £200 tuning box on the CDTi will give you thrills no problem, and similar torque and mid range accelleration to a standard Vectra VXR.

However, the Vectra VXR is worth it if you spend more money on it.... and thats where the problems start.. its an expensive car to own as it is... without spending more money to make it the car it should have been from factory.

For quick power gains you will need:-

    Remap - £500 (300 BHP / 400 Lb/ft)
    Lowering Springs - £200 (DAP-R recommended)

    Which then leads on to:-

Quaiffe LSD - £1000 (better traction)

    Main heavy running costs are:-

    Tyres - £180 per corner
    Petrol - £? (work on 22-25 mpg)
    Road Tax - £400 PA
Insurance Group 18 - £? (I take it your over 25 years old?)

If you can EASILY afford it, then its a superb car to play with

If you can JUST afford it, then its a superb car to experience (especially when remapped)

If you need to be economical with your money at any point... dont buy it...

What is this about the DAP-R springs? I was going to go for Eibachs for the Signum 2.8 but now you have me interested as I believe you already had Eibachs Spoons? Where do you get them from and whats the difference between them and the Eibachs?

And all performance cars are expensive... the 1.9 would never match the performance so if you have a thrill for speed you need to sacrifice the wallet
